Scope and Contents
Black-and-white and color original and copy prints of banks, churches, businesses, buildings, and prominent citizens of the African-American communities of Mound Bayou, Mississippi; Boley, Oklahoma; Clearview, Oklahoma; Langston, Oklahoma, including Langston University; and Nicodemus, Kansas. Photographs depict the towns at the time of their founding and also during the 1970s. Individuals pictured include Booker T. Washington, early Boley promoters Thomas M. Haynes and David J. Turner, and Langston leaders Edward P. McCabe, S. Douglas Russell, and Inman E. Page. Unpublished finding aid available.
