Scope and Contents
Black-and-white and color original and copy prints, postcards, and stereograph cards of American Indians, Alaskan Natives, and First Peoples of Canada. A wide variety of American Indian subjects are pictured, such as dancing, ceremonies, traditional clothing, children, housing, schools, and cemeteries. The tribes represented are the Apache, Assiniboine, Blackfoot, Chaco, Cherokee, Chippewa, Choctaw, Comanche, Cree, Crow, Hopi, Kiowa, Koshare, Menominee, Navajo, Ojibway, Ponca, Pueblo, Sac and Fox, Santa Clara, Seminole, Shoshone, Sioux, Siwash, Umatilla, Ute, and Wichita. Among the many individuals pictured are Max Big Man, Bull Bear, William F. “Buffalo Bill” Cody, Hector Crawler, Moskowekam, Mow-Way, Billy Osceola, Spotted Weasel, John Stink, and Weasel Calf. Also included in the collection are general western American images of rodeos, businesses, churches, street scenes, parades, world’s fairs and expositions, stage performances, World War II activities in Panama, and landscapes.
