Dord Fitz papers
Fitz, George (Dord) Edward (1914-1989). Papers, 1928-1989. 17 cubic feet. Artist, art educator, and gallery owner. A childhood lisp caused him to pronounce his first name “Dord,” although he didn’t use it officially until about 1933. Materials include Fitz’s correspondence, military records, exhibition brochures, newspaper articles, and sales records (1928-1989); as well as his files on artists carried in the Dord Fitz Gallery (1948-1989); records regarding his art students and student art shows at the Dord Fitz School of Art (1951-1980); and other papers reflecting his interests and activities. The collection also includes photographs of artists and their works, art exhibition films, and sound recordings about art and other subjects. Notable artists represented in the collection include Elaine and Willem de Kooning, Louise Nevelson, and Charles Bunnell.

Gore, a letter to Bill Doolin from his wife, Edith, and a letter to Matie Thomas from Chris Madsen. Also includes magazine articles (1935) titled "Truth is Stranger than Fiction" and "Heck Thomas Collects" recounting the exploits of Heck Thomas as a railroad express messenger in Texas, and as U.S. deputy marshal in Indian Territory; and diaries (1889-1895) kept by Heck Thomas which include notations about cases, witnesses, etc.

This collection contains his publications, papers, correspondence, and realia (1956-2010) These include Lilly’s correspondence (1991-1993) as Director of the Center for the Analysis and Prediction of Storms. Also included are cards, letters, the Rossby Research Award from the American Meteorological Society, and photographs of Lilly, his family, and colleagues.
