Scope and Contents College of Architecture. Original drawings by students and architects associated with the University of Oklahoma’s School of Architecture. The organic architecture style depicted in the drawings resulted from the influence of OU professor Bruce Goff and others, and is now known as the American School of Architecture. The school later became the Christopher C. Gibbs College of Architecture.

Correspondence and research materials (1983-1991) on the American School of Architecture, and the 1985 Royal Institute of British Architects’ (R.I.B.A.) London exhibition, The American School of Architecture: The Bruce Goff Legacy. The correspondents are primarily the exhibition curator Susan King, architect Donald MacDonald, and Jane Preger of the British Architectural Library. The collection also includes a series of board-mounted drawings and images (undated) of structures in California and Washington by Donald MacDonald Architects.

The collection consists of original and copy prints of drawings, digitized drawings in jpeg and pdf formats, and slides of artists’ illustrations.

The slides depict Bruce Goff’s Bavinger House, the Herb Greene House (the “Prairie Chicken”), student projects for architecture courses in 1951-1960 at the University of Oklahoma, and projects by students in Brown-Manrique’s Graphics 2 classes.

Scope and Contents Architect. Drawings of residences, commercial buildings, and design concepts by Michigan architect Harvey Ferrero, who apprenticed with Bruce Goff in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1958-1960. The collection includes drawings (1955-2014) for built and unbuilt projects for which he was architect, as well as several Bruce Goff-designed residences. Photographs (1960-2010) in the collection depict renderings, residences, and commercial buildings by Ferrero, including the Max Klein Building in Southfield, Michigan. An accompanying minor series of papers (1957-2019) contains news articles on architecture, original and copies of letters to Ferrero from Goff, and a published portfolio (2014) of Ferrero’s works.

Projects depicted include Wright’s Lamberson home in Iowa, and Greene’s homes in Oklahoma for the Greene, Lyons, and Joyce families, an unidentified home, and an architectural screen for the Roosevelt Granite Company in Snyder, Oklahoma.

The works are primarily architectural in nature. The collection also contains a small series of largely copied materials (2009-2012) on fellow OU School of Architecture student, Vincent E. Van De Venter, sculptor Alphonso Iannelli, and architect Bruce Goff.

Scope and Contents Architect. Architectural drawings (1952-1956) created by Robert L. Faust as a student of Bruce Goff at the University of Oklahoma School of Architecture. The drawings depict a forestry fire control station, a gas station, an airport for Oklahoma City, a motel, and other structures. Faust’s projects completed for Goff’s aesthetic course illustrate various design concepts and their practical application. Many of the drawings are on board, or cased in original board frames.

Gralla. The digitized images show examples of Gralla’s student and professional works. The publication is a full-color booklet titled “Gralla Equine Architects: The Authority on Equine Design.”

Scope and Contents Architect. Papers and architectural drawings by William Haney, who studied architecture at the University of Oklahoma under Bruce Goff. The papers contain Haney’s recollections of his early interest in architecture, his student days at OU, and his later work as a minister for the Unitarian Universalist Church in Columbia, Missouri. The drawings reflect Haney’s work during the period of 1949-1965, which includes some assignments as an architecture student. The collection also contains photographs of Bruce Goff with Duke Ellington, and digitized copies of the photographs and selected drawings.
Scope and Contents Architect. Papers (1958-2017) and architectural drawings (1961-1996) of William "Bill" Murphy, and architectural drawings (1951-1983) by architect Herb Greene. Murphy’s papers contain correspondence with Herb Greene, Lloyd Wright, Bruce Goff, Esther McCoy, and others. The papers also contain publicity materials, posters, and clippings about exhibitions, building projects, and architects. The graphic materials include drawings created over the span of Murphy’s career as an architect from his student days at the University of Oklahoma, to his work for New York University, at Kahn and Jacobs, and his partnership with Louis Muller. The Herb Greene materials include drawings created as a student of Bruce Goff at the University of Oklahoma, as well as later works.

Scope and Contents Architect. One black-and-white photographic print (1952) of the construction of the Home Economics building, later known as Burton Hall, on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus. The building was designed by architect and OU faculty member, William Stanley Burgett, and was completed in 1952.
