Collector. A short, typewritten copy of a travel diary (1908) on traveling through Kansas and Oklahoma, along with copies of three letters (1849-1873). One letter is from Beni Wingate writing from Ft. Gibson, Indian Territory, in 1850 regarding family matters; the second is from George Mower, writing from the Platte River in Nebraska Territory in 1849 and commenting on what he had seen since leaving St. Joseph, Missouri; and the third (1873) is a brief letter of introduction for a salesman operating out of Denison, Texas.

Diaries of John F. Lafferty, who enlisted in the Ohio militia during the Civil War. Included are hand-drawn maps of Union battlefield maneuvers and artillery magazines, and lists of daily rations. The diaries are written almost exclusively in Pitman-style shorthand, and are not transcribed.

Gore, a letter to Bill Doolin from his wife, Edith, and a letter to Matie Thomas from Chris Madsen. Army officer. A manuscript travel journal by Lieutenant E. H. Stoughton, U.S. Sixth Infantry Regiment, written during a steamboat trip up the Missouri River from Missouri to Montana, in 1860. He describes the geography and people he views along the way, including members of Native American tribes such as the Omaha, Pawnee, and Sioux. The collection also includes other mementoes and letters including one written by Brigadier General E. H. Stoughton during his imprisonment at Libby Prison in Richmond, Virginia, 1863.

U.S. Marine. Correspondence (1936–1944) from Rhoads to his brother Sherman, his sister-in-law Ruth, and his nieces Shirley and Gaytha, from military posts in the United States, Iceland, and Guam. The collection also includes correspondence between family members including Rhoads’s parents, Shirley and Lettie Rhoads, and his sister Della. The collection contains a diary (1942) kept by Rhoads while in Iceland; funeral register pages and a funeral announcement (1949) when his body was returned to the United States along with the U.S. flag covering his coffin; Rhoads’s military identification card; six medals, including the Purple Heart; and war ration books used by the Rhoads family during the war.
