Attorney. Notebooks of memoirs by Homer W. Wheeler, describing his life as an Army Scout; broadsides, newspapers, and handbills regarding the settlement of Kansas; along with a wide variety of other documents collected by Farley and relating the the Civil War, settlement of Kansas, Indian battles on the Great Plains with an emphasis on Kansas, and on the history of the American West in general. Also included is one of the two known copies of the "Siwinowe Kesibwi" (Shawnee Sun) newspaper (1841).

Pioneer. Photocopy of a typescript memoir (1887) by Mary Griffith Hoops, published in the Marion Record in 1925, describing the settlement in 1864-1865 of her family in Marion, Kansas. Includes information on the early history of the area, life on the frontier, a meeting with Kit Carson, and a trading post on the Santa Fe Trail.

Confederate soldier. A bound typescript of a journal kept by Turnbo while serving as a Confederate soldier with the 27th Arkansas Infantry in the Trans-Mississippi West during the Civil War. The journal includes accounts of the activities of the "Jayhawkers" and "Mountain Boomers" in the Ozark Mountains region.
