Jesse James as corpse, 1846-1882. Description by a neighbor of Jesse James, Fred Sutton on back of picture, reads: “I lived in the same block with Jesse James in St. Joseph, Mo. In 1882 and I know him quite well as Mr. Howard which name was on his door plate. I have seen him near his home when school was let out with a little child in each arm and five or six hold of his long Prince Albert coat that he always wore when at his home. This picture is the only one I ever saw of him and the original is owned by Mrs. Andrew Sinclair of St. Joe who had an artist open the eyes making a fine picture of that noted man.
