Subject Collection. Collection includes litigation brought before the Indian Claims Commission by the Kickapoo, Miami, Peoria, and Potawatomi Indian tribes. The litigation pertains to treaties and land petitions. Most of the tribes are based in Oklahoma with a few in Michigan and Kansas.

Case files (1903-1904) and letter books (1900-1905) from cases involving Choctaw and Chickasaw tribal citizenship claims; dockets (1903-1904) for the Southern and Central Divisions of the U.S. District Court for Indian Territory; an account book (1899) and a record book (1876) entitled "Proceedings of the Board of Chief Commissioners of the Court of Claims, Choctaw Nation"; along with clippings (1896-1907) and published court documents (1900-1940) relating to Choctaw and Chickasaw cases in U.S. courts. Cornish's law firm, Mansfield, McMurray and Cornish, represented the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations in cases involving tribal citizenship claims.

The cases involve law suits filed by Indian tribes and were tried before the Indian Claims Commission, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the U.S. Supreme Court. Niebell represented the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, Osage, Seminole, Wichita, Caddo, Cheyenne-Arapaho, and various other Indian tribes. Important cases in the collection include: Cherokee Nation v. U.S.; Cherokee Freedmen and Cherokee Freedmen's Association v. U.S.; Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations v. U.S.; Osage Nation v. U.S.; Creek Nation v. U.S.; Seminole Indians v. U.S.; Wichita Indians v. U.S.; Caddo Tribe of Oklahoma v. U.S.; and Cheyenne-Arapaho Tribes v. Abstract

Attorney. Correspondence (1898-1943) regarding his legal practice; legal case files (1898-1943) in which Redwine was involved; published legal briefs (n.d.); client account ledgers (1904-1917); and political posters and leaflets (1910, 1924) published during Redwine's campaigns for election to the state supreme court and senate. The entries in the expense ledgers prior to November, 1907 concern legal services provided for a number of Choctaw Indian families experiencing difficulty in receiving or claiming allotments.
